This Saturday (December 16th) we'll be at the Last Minute, Last Chance Craft Show at Cedar Mall in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. This will be a great show, with over 35 crafters (last year there were only about 20), plus the mall stores have all of their holiday specials going on.

Christmas is right around the corner!

Hey everybody! We've made it this far. The Christmas craft show in Marquette, Michigan is over, and went very well as usual. And the visiting with family and friends was great too!

This Saturday (December 9th) we will have our stuff at three (3, count them) shows. Lisa will be at the Community Center in Sheldon, Wisconsin; I'll be at the Community Center in Iron River, Wisconsin; and our stuff will be at the Town Hall in Grand View, Wisconsin; all at the same time.

There is a small show at the Northern Lakes Co-op in Hayward, Wisconsin on Friday, December 15th which we may be at.

Then on Saturday, December 16th we'll be at the Last Minute Last Chance craft show at Cedar Mall in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Then it's Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

And more shows in 2007.

Plus, if all goes well, this Friday we will close on our new building here in Winter and then we'll be moving our shop business there, and opening back up maybe even before Christmas!

ANTIQUE SHOW

This weekend (October 21st and 22nd) is the fall antique show at Rice Lake Cedar Mall in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. We'll be there, along with all the other great dealers, and we've gotten in some really neat things -- you'll just have to come and see for yourselves!

The following weekend (October 28th and 29th) we don't have anything scheduled (PARTY TIME, A WEEKEND OFF!!!) We're planning to go to Marquette, Michigan for the "Rocky Horror Show" at the Historic Vista Theatre in downtown Negaunee.

Saturday, November 4th is right back into the grind again, though. Two Arts & Crafts shows; one in New Auburn, Wisconsin, and the other in Ashland, Wisconsin.......

This past weekend, the Bessemer, Michigan Pumpkin fest, the Medford, Wisconsin Ice Arena Craft show, and the consignment auction at Brodhead, Wisconsin, all went really well. A very tiring weekend for all of us, but a good one.

I'll be on to update the schedule again next week.

Yesterday was a beautiful day for the first Saturday in October, which is always the Cranberry Festival in Stone Lake, Wisconsin. It was windy, though. But from now on we'll be at indoor shows through December 16th, and who knows what the new year will bring?

Speaking of Stone Lake, it was a very good show as always. Bruce from Last Frontier Antiques, and the rest of the organizers do a fantastic job!

Here's our upcoming schedule again, just to keep it fresh in your mind---

Stone Lake Cranberry Festival - Tomorrow

Saturday, October 7th is the Stone Lake Cranberry Festival in Stone Lake, Wisconsin. Stone Lake is located on HWY 70 about ten miles south of Hayward. I think we've done this show all but one year starting in 1987, making this our 19th time. This is always our busiest one day show of the year, and sometimes our busiest overall. With about 300 Art & Craft vendors, plus flea market, farm produce, food, and don't forget CRANBERRIES, it is well worth braving the crowd. We are in booth #44 on Frost Street, right across from the Lion's Hall.

In addition to cardinals, Lisa has done these cute little sleds with snowmen, but we only have a few of them.

And, this past week I've been stocking up on my shotshell garlands (plus some with nuts for the less hunting inclined), after selling out of them last weekend at Copper Falls and Wisconsin Rapids.

And remember, if you don't want to brave the Cranberry Fest crowd tomorrow, the following Saturday (October 14th), Lisa will be set up indoors at the Pumpkin Festival in Bessemer, Michigan (on US HWY 2, just east of Hurley WI/IronwoodMI).

Is this MOOSE awesome, or what?

Is this MOOSE awesome, or what? The price on this vintage crock with bull moose fall scene is a mere $49.95

Copper Falls State Park

This Saturday (9/30) is free admission at Copper Falls State Park outside Mellen, Wisconsin. This is a fantastic park with waterfalls and walking trails, well worth a visit anytime. On this free day, they also hold and Arts & Crafts show on the grounds near and in the pavillion, which we've done for the past several years. And a huge plus right now -- the fall colors are at a peak, and they are the very best we've seen in 20 years in this area. The color viewing is well worth the drive to Copper Falls from whereever you're at -- and you can buy stuff from us and from other vendors. And don't let the weather reports scare you off, it will be beautiful even with clouds and occasional rain.

Then, on Sunday (10/1) I'll be in downtown Wisconsin Rapids for their Grand Affair Arts & Crafts show. And don't forget the following Saturday we'll be at the Stone Lake Cranberry Festival.

See you at one or more.....

Wind and outdoor craft shows

Wind is not our friend. The weather forecast for yesterday said 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. Sooooo.... it logically follows that it started raining at six in the morning. That didn't last long though, about 30 minutes while I was driving, and later about another 15 minutes. But the wind was strong and gusty all day. Luckily neither Lisa or I had any damage at our shows, but some other vendors' display racks, canopies, etc. got blown over from time to time. The other issue was the temperature. Forecast high: 72. Actual high: 85. I dressed for 72, cloudy, windy, and rain. I stayed warm enough.

The show Lisa was at in Chetek was down a bit from previous years, but you can't do anything about the weather. My show in Amery, Wisconsin, was a new one for us, and it was decent. I only had 1 repeat customer, and I think we picked up a few new ones who will be back. We love our loyal followers.

Next weekend, (Friday 5:00pm - 9:00pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am to 4:00pm Eastern Time Zone, we'll be at the Superior Dome at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, for the WLUC-TV6 fall arts and crafts show. Looking forward to seeing all of our U.P. friends.

And finally, the Winter Warriors Junior Varsity Football team WON their first ever home game yesterday. GO WARRIORS!!!!!!

Chetek & Amery

Random photo.........

Remember tomorrow (9/16) we'll be at craft shows in Chetek and Amery, Wisconsin. The weather doesn't look so good for later in the day, but the morning should be good, so come on out early.

Cameron craft show, and a strange auction find

Well, I put off my trip to southern Wisconsin. On Saturday I helped Lisa set up at Cameron, and I went to an auction between Cameron and Chetek. The craft show was about like usual; not bad, not great; but it's a cheap show to set up at, and there wasn't anything else for Saturday. Also as usual for the Cameron show, it was very windy - the worst condition for an outdoor craft show.

At the auction I bought a sled which Lisa will paint after I do some repairs on it. It's a "National 88" with the top broken, one side rail missing, and a bent over nail replacing the rivet through the steering bar. I'll post a photo of it as soon as I get one taken. The odd feature of this sled is that this is the second time I've bought it at an auction. The first time was quite a few years ago in southern Wisconsin as I remember, and then we sold it at a rummage sale 3 or 4 years ago because I hadn't gotten around to fixing it for Lisa to paint. Now that we have it back I will take the time to fix it up -- and we'll sell it again. I know the old saying "what comes around goes around", but maybe I've been at this too long...

Remember... this Saturday (9/16) Lisa will be at Chetek and I'll be at Amery, Wisconsin. We've done Chetek for several years and it's a nice small craft show and farmers' market. Amery's Fall Festival has been going on for years, but this will be our first time there. Give these a try if you are out and about this Saturday.

And on a very special note: Football tonight (not on TV) 5:30pm, Winter Warriors at Lake Holcombe (about 14 miles south of Ladysmith, Wisconsin). In a later post I'll put up the complete schedule for the new Winter football team. For those of you who don't know, our oldest son, Will, is a Freshman and on the team. This is the first year, Winter High School has never had a football team before. It's a big deal in a small town.

More later..... Randy

Lisa went shopping today

Lisa and my mother went shopping today in Rice Lake. Doesn't sound spectacular, I know, but Winter is a small town. Anyway, she came back with clear glass coffee mugs like the blue ones and red ones we usually have. They'll be available with most coffee mug-appropriate designs for $8.95 each, the same price as the blue and red. She also got some blue glass plates in two sizes. Plans are that these will have snowmen. I don't know what the prices will be yet, but I'll keep you up-to-date. One special note about these: Unlike the jars, mugs, wineglasses, etc., the plates will be decorative only, not for food use. The reason for this is that the paint manufacturer is unwilling to disclose the paint formula as they would have to for food-safe listing from the good old FDA. So... when the paint is on the food surface, the piece isn't for food. Later... Randy

Other artists and crafters

Hey all, I haven't left town yet, and an idea struck me this morning. Are any of you people out there in blogger-land other artists and crafters who would be interested in contact info for the shows we do or others we have info on? Let me know, and if there's some interest, I'll post addresses and/or contact numbers. More when I get back from "down south".

Sled

Oops, I forgot something. From my August 28th post, the green sled with the birds is sold. We do still have the snowman, though. And more neat stuff will be appearing.

Cameron, Wisconsin - September 9th

This just in -- the craft show/flea market/farmers' market at Cameron, Wisconsin (just south of Rice Lake) is this Saturday (September 9th), and Lisa should be there.

This past weekend at Port Wing and Shell Lake was great. The weather was perfect, despite what the weathermen had been saying, and everyone was in a good mood.

My darling wife thinks I should add an interesting comment or observation from each show we do, so here goes. I hope I don't offend anyone! From the Cumberland Rutabaga Festival the previous weekend: Two couples came by the booth at about 8:15am. As the women were looking at our booth one guy said to the other "why are we looking at this crafty s***, we could be drinking"? At 8:15am, wouldn't that make it a long day? And then yesterday afternoon at Shell Lake I actually saw a guy drinking maple syrup from a quart jug - with nothing to wash it down - and I saw him do it twice about 20 minutes apart. Maybe a beer at 8:15am wouldn't be so bad.

I may not get a chance to post again until next week after my trip south, or maybe I will - you'll just have to keep checking.

Me and my links, Plus...Blue Pony

So the contact me link in my last post doesn't work, what a surprise...anyway, it's randy@ourhousecraft.com

BLUE PONY ANTIQUES & ART is located at 2655 HWY 8 east of Cameron, Wisconsin. We have had antiques, Lisa's painted jars, and other stuff there since last winter. Its been nice, but not really good enough to be worth the time and effort of keeping it stocked. So... we'll be closing out our booth by the end of September. I was in today and marked down a lot of items, some of them as much as 60% off! THIS IS IT, though. We won't be making any further mark-downs, and anything that's left to be brought back to our shop will go back to regular price. If you want some big discounts on some neat stuff, stop in, or give them a call at 715-859-2878. We have a cream and black Hoosier-style cabinet marked down to $495.00, for example.

When we get closer to the October 14th consignment auction I'll try to post a listing of what we'll be sending down to it on this blog, as well as the complete auction listing which will be available at the auctioneer's website (see link in my last post...that one does work).

Later, Randy

Travel plans

As of now it looks like I'll be heading south to Madison/Janesville, Wisconsin around the middle of next week, and staying until about the 12th or 13th of September. I have some things to do concerning my new business, plus visiting friends, etc. If anyone in that area wants anything delivered, let me know.

On another subject, for those of you interested in antiques and collectables, it looks like there will be a consignment auction at Brodhead, Wisconsin on November 14th. We'll have a lot of stuff there, and it should be a very nice fall auction. Keep checking this link for details, and if you are in that area and have anything you want to have sold. I'll try to keep you posted here as well.

Later.

Sleds

Lisa spends most of her time lately painting on glass, but I recently got these 2 old sleds at an auction. She painted them last week, and she hasn't forgotten how to paint on wooden stuff. We'll have one or both of them at shows with us on weekends, and in the shop otherwise, until they sell. They are priced at $62.50 each. If you happen to want one, you can e-mail me and we'll work out the details randy@ourhousecraft.com

Later, Randy

Twenty years in this business.

Before Lisa and I even met we had both been collecting various things, and we had both done Arts & Crafts shows. But as a pretty much full-time business, we started with selling antiques and collectables and junque at flea markets in southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana in June of 1986. Then in September of '86 we set up at our first actual antique show, and also at our first Arts & Crafts show together with just hand-stenciled and block-printed notecards and greeting cards, and a few other small crafts. So, we are officially celebrating(?) our Twntieth Anniversary in the business this September. Of course, by May of 1987 we had opened our first shop, so that 20th will be coming up in the spring.

For all of our Marquette area friends, the WLUC-TV6 Fall Harvest Arts & Crafts Show is coming up on September 22nd, 23rd & 24th - we'll be sending out a mailing in a few days.

Then on the following Saturday (September 30th) is the Crafts Day and free park admission at Copper Falls State Park outside Mellen, Wisconsin.

We hope to see you at one of these shows, or some of the others we'll be at every weekend - see our full schedule in an earlier post, and I'll update as we book more shows.

Yahoo! Auctions are back!

Big news for everyone!!

In addition to our online store, www.OurHouseCraft.com we also list a lot of stuff on eBay and on Yahoo! Auctions. We haven't had much on eBay lately just because I haven't been taking the time to list stuff. Believe it or not, it's more tedious and time-consuming to list on eBay than on Yahoo! Auctions (plus Yahoo! is free), and the reason we haven't had much on Yahoo! is that their system has not been working for subscribers to some isp's (including ours) for several weeks. THEY HAVE IT FIXED as of yesterday. I've been relisting some of our unsold stuff so far, and I'll be getting new stuff on soon. You will want to keep checking these out because you never know what I'll be listing (pink and yellow glass-like space rock, anyone?). I'm not quite clear on how to link to these sites, so here is what you'll have to do: For eBay, go there and search for the user name ourhousecraft; for Yahoo! go to the Yahoo! page, click on the "more Yahoo! services" link, click on "auctions", then on the auctions homepage search for the user name jedwillspike.

Good luck on that rock!

Randy

Rutabagas and Labor Day

We just finished the Cumberland, Wisconsin Rutabaga Festival craft show. The craft show was good, though I'm not big on rutabagas (one bar was selling rutabaga fries, like french fries, yum?).

Anyway, next Saturday and Sunday Lisa and the boys will be at the Port Wing, Wisconsin Fish Boil (the largest fish boil in Wisconsin) for a craft show, and I'll be in Shell Lake, Wisconsin (on HWY 63 between Spooner and Cumberland) for a craft and some antiques show at least on Saturday and probably Sunday as well.

We're also running an end-of-the-season Labor Day Weekend antique and collectable furniture sale in our shop this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. All furniture in the shop will be marked down from 10% to 50%!! Then we go to our fall hours in the shop through most of September, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

And... At the end of September we'll be leaving our booth at the Blue Pony antique and art shop on HWY 8 east of Cameron, Wisconsin, so we will have close-outs tagged there by Labor Day Weekend as well.

And... Speaking of Cameron, Wisconsin. Saturday, September 9th should be their craft show and flea/farmers' market on the streets of downtown. Not sure yet, but if it is we'll be there, and/or wherever else comes up.

Finally, we got the date for the craft show at Copper Falls State Park at Mellen, Wisconsin, and it is Saturday, September 30th. It's a fun, small craft show, and no State Park admission sticker is required that day. If you aren't familliar with Copper Falls, just the park is worth the trip even without the craft show.

More later --Randy

Randy

Life is ever-changing. Re.: 9/16

We will be at Amery on the 16th after all. The show is still full, but they decided to add another row of vendor booths.

So..... Mark your September 16th calendar for both Chetek and Amery - I'll be at one and Lisa will be at the other!

September 16th schedule change!!!

The Arts & Crafts show at Amery, Wisconsin is full - so we won't be there. We don't get closed out of shows very often, and I don't like rejection.

So... we'll only be at the Harvest Fest in Chetek, Wisconsin (south of Rice Lake, just off of
HWY 53) on the 16th - see you there.

I just got home last evening from doing the Father Marquette Days craft show in Montello, Wisconsin. It was a very nice little show and a great event overall - car show, food and beer, softball, pie and ice cream, etc. They're planning to combine it with another festival next year. Don't know what the dates will be yet, but we'll probably be there if it doesn't conflict with some other show.

Lisa's show in Barnes, Wisconsin was also very nice, and they're planning to do it again next year.

Cumberland Rutabaga Fest this Saturday - 8/26 - se you there!!

2006 SHOW SCHEDULE - so far

This is how our 2006 show schedule is shaping up so far. There will be changes and additions (and possibly some deletions). Even if we end up not going to a show that we have listed, check them out if you're in the area anyway, as there will be great stuff even without us. So here goes: March 18 & 19 - Antique show at CEDAR MALL in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. March 18 (maybe) Arts & Crafts show in Brodhead, Wisconsin at the elementary and middle schools. April 1 (no foolin') Arts & Crafts show in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, in the high school gym. May 12 & 13 Antique show at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, Michigan - Ruth Butler Building. May 19, 20 & 21 Arts & Crafts show at Superior Dome on the NMU campus in Marquette, Michigan. June 17 Arts & Crafts show outdoors along the main street in frederic, Wisconsin - note the new date, this show has been held in August. June 23, 24 & 25 Arts & Crafts show in the Ruth Butler Building of the U.P State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, Michigan (same location as the antique show on May 12 & 13). We'll be posting more as we fill in and extend our calendar. Keep checking!!
